Sweet n Low: An International Juried Show of Cute

Deadline to apply: EXTENDED March 17, 2017The artists selected for Sweet n Low will extend the genre of cute from cuddly and precious to creepy and ironic. From kitsch and Margaret Keane’s Big Eyes, to Japanese anime and the contemporary Pop Art work of Takashi Murakami, we’re looking to unleash the roly-poly, goofily-gamboling, saccharine-honeyed creatures on this earth and beyond!
Evan Pricco, Juxtapoz Magazine
Evan Pricco is the Editor of leading international contemporary art magazine, Juxtapoz Art & Culture, based in San Francisco, California. He is also the author of Juxtapoz's fine art book series which features over a dozen titles, including the recently published, Juxtapoz Wild. For the Seattle Art Fair in 2016 he curated the exhibition, Juxtapoz x Superflat, with Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami. An avid champion of Public Art, Evan has been interviewed by Bloomberg News and CNN advocating the merits of Public Art and its financial impact. In 2015, he collaborated with NYC design agency, Doubleday & Cartwright, on a public art project in Times Square, NYC. He now lives in Sausalito, California.
Susannah Kelly & Neil Perry, Antler Gallery, Portland OR
Antler Gallery is located in the Alberta Arts District of Portland, Oregon and was founded by Susannah Kelly and Neil Perry in 2012. Merging contemporary art and innovative handmade craft, Antler Gallery showcases a wide array of artists from the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Since 2012, their growing popularity and success has allowed them to relocate to a larger gallery space where they may better support their community of artists. Susannah and Neil curate the gallery together, only showcasing artists and works that they both love. Antler Gallery has a strong focus on nature, and partners with the Audubon Society of Portland on an annual benefit exhibition that raises awareness and funding for endangered and extinct species. Susannah Kelly and Neil Perry are both working artist.

Open to all artists, 18 years of age or older.
Open to all media. There are no size limitations for entries. Please include specific dimensions with your entry. Bedford Gallery reserves the right not to accept exceptionally large, heavy, or cumbersome pieces. Work must be framed (when applicable) and ready to hang (wire, d-rings, or cleat). Acrylic glazing only; NO GLASS. All art must be labeled with artist’s name, title, year, and medium.
A non-refundable fee of $40 is required. This fee covers up to 3 entries. Online submissions are not considered complete until payment is made. Members of Bedford Gallery receive one free submission per year with their $50 membership. Check out our membership page and become a member today!
Members must email email@example.com notifying staff you are a member and wish to submit an entry on slideroom. Please email before completing your application, or you will be asked for payment. We will waive your fee and reply to your email letting you know you can submit your application and will not be asked for payment info.

shipping and delivery
All accepted entries must be received by Bedford Gallery by June 2, 2017. Please label all packing materials with your name. Shipped work should arrive in a reusable container with return postage or prepaid shipping documents and correct return labeling. Be sure to indicate insurance value for shipping both ways.
Hand-delivered artwork may be dropped off Tues, May 30 – Fri June 2, between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. only.
Following the close of the exhibition, artwork can be picked up Tues Sept 5 – Fri Sept 8, between 10:00 a.m. and 5:30 pm. Please arrange for a representative to pick up your work if you are unable. Artwork remaining at the Bedford Gallery past specified pick-up dates and times will be subject to a $10 per day storage fee. Shipped artwork will be packaged and shipped beginning on Sept 11. Return of work without return postage or prepaid shipping documents will be delayed.
Artists are encouraged to sell their work. Artists receive 60% of the sale price for work that is sold. In the past, public interest in available work has been high and the Gallery believes such artist-collector dialogue is a vibrant part of exhibitions. All work must have a declared value for insurance purposes, even if it is not for sale.
Payment for sales will be mailed checks (no exceptions) and artist will be required to submit W-9 or W-8BEN before receiving payment.
Artwork accepted for the exhibition will be insured by the City of Walnut Creek from the time it is received and inspected by Gallery Staff until artwork is tendered to shipper for return to the artist or artist’s agent. Delivery and pickup are the responsibility of the artist. During the exhibition, artwork will be insured against all physical loss or damage from any external cause. Insurance is limited to the wholesale value at the time of loss. If damage occurs and the piece can be repaired, liability will be limited to the cost of such repair.
Submission of work constitutes an agreement to the conditions set forth and acceptance that the decisions of the juror are final. Bedford Gallery may photograph and reproduce accepted work for promotional purposes. Artists may not withdraw accepted entries before the close of the exhibition.
how to enter
Bedford Gallery will only be accepting online entries for Sweet n Low through the online portfolio review site SlideRoom.
1) Register at https://bedfordgallery.slideroom.com/. You can access this website from any browser with the free application Adobe Flash Player. If you don't already have Flash, your browser will prompt you to download it, or you can get it here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/.
2) Follow the instructions to upload up to 3 entry images (up to 5MB) to the Sweet n Low program. Video artists may submit files in mov, wmv, flv, or mp4 formats (up to 60 MB). Complete entry details for each image. You can save your progress and return to your entry at any time before the deadline to edit your information.
3) Complete payment information to finalize your entry. You cannot edit your entry after submitting payment information. Payments must be received by the deadline for your entry to be accepted.
