The Jealous Curator
From Blog, to Book, to Gallery
December 7, 2014 - February 1, 2015
The Bedford will bring the blogosphere into the gallery with a show by the internationally renowned contemporary art blogger, The Jealous Curator.
This show is designed to enlighten, inspire, and chase away creative blocks that inhibit the artist in all of us. Using The Jealous Curator’s newly released book, Creative Block: Advice and Projects from 50 Successful Artists, as a launch pad, the exhibition features art in a variety of media from 21 artists profiled in the book and on the blog.
The Jealous Curator blog highlights contemporary artists from around the world who make us stop and think, “I wish I thought of that!” Creative Block expands on the blog to further explore how successful working artists react when they get blocked, hear their inner critic or have days when the ideas just won’t come. Their answers, many of which are featured on the gallery walls, are honest, funny, helpful, and show that none of us are alone when it comes to struggling with the creative process.
The Jealous Curator: From Blog, to Book, to Gallery exhibition also contains “unblocking” art-making stations designed by artists –where visitors can make some art, make their mark, and unblock!

About the Jealous Curator:
The Jealous Curator blog launched in February 2009 as a place for artist Danielle Krysa to show artwork that made her “jealous.” As she describes it, “There is one moment, in the first few seconds, when you look at a piece of art and know that you love it. It’s the moment when, if you’re an artist yourself, you look at it and feel a rush of uplifting inspiration… and total soul-crushing jealousy all at the same time. It’s when you walk away thinking, ‘Damn, I wish I thought of that’.”
The Jealous Curator worked as a designer and Creative Director for 14 years. Based in Canada, she writes daily posts on her blog showcasing artwork from around the world. She has curated shows in Washington DC, Chattanooga, TN, Los Angeles, CA and Vancouver, Canada. Earlier in 2014 she released her first book, Creative Block: Advice and Projects from 50 Successful Artists. For this book, The Jealous Curator interviewed 50 successful artists to find out how they stay motivated and inspired to create, and how they push through moments of self-doubt.
