Paved Paradise:

Perspectives on (Human) Nature

June 10 - July 22, 2007

The Contra Costa Youth Art Exhibition takes place every three years at the Bedford Gallery. It continues to be one of the gallery’s most important community-based shows. It is open to all high school aged youth in Contra Costa County, and brings together young artists, parents and extended family, teachers, and community to celebrate the arts and engage young learning.

This year the exhibition is entitled Paved Paradise: Perspectives on (Human) Nature. Student artists are asked to present their vision of the relationship between themselves and the world, especially the effect of human “progress” on our natural surroundings.

The exhibition will be juried by Kim Anno, an internationally known artist and Professor of Art at the California College of the Arts. She has shown her work nationally, in Europe and in South America. Anno has received numerous public commissions and, among other awards, was granted an NEA fellowship in 1996 and a Fleishhaker Fellowship in 2003.
