Artist Statement

“When we designed Geologica, we made it so changes in the light, weather and seasons would alter the way you see it. It’s never the same twice, because you’ll view it in slightly different conditions every time you walk by.

Our inspiration comes from water and the geological strata. We liken the shimmering golden geode core to the interior of a fragmented piece of rock.

We also explore how narrative helps shape our understanding of a place, a community and our environment. For example, Walnut Creek is named for the stream that flows through the heart of town, though it is hidden in channels that wind beneath the street.”

About the Artists

The Sebastopol-based artists, Scott Constable and Ene Osteraas-Constable, have installed public artworks in many cities, including Emeryville, Oakland, San Jose and San Francisco. They have another piece in The Orchards development in eastern Walnut Creek. When they conceptualize a public art work, they start by looking at the potential behind common forms and overlooked community spaces and go from there.
